Checkpoint 6 Action blog - PBL HHS 2017

The first thing we did was email Mr Rogers to get permission to invite SmokeFree NZ to come to school.

After that we emailed SmokeFree NZ and ask them if they could come to school.

Unfortunately SmokeFree NZ couldn't come but we did contact other organization to come to school.

We got the reply from Stop Smoking Canterbury and they said that they would like to help us in our project
And we already email them back to know when they could possibly come to school.

Year 10 Persuasive Writing Assessment

Year 10 Persuasive Writing Assessment

4 September 2017

Dear Mr Sutton,

I am writing because I heard your new rule that you are not allowing us students not to use phones during lessons time, that the phones are will be handed in at the start of the day and collected at the end.

I think that’s kind of unfair because our phones can help us in our study specially when chromebooks are not available or already booked. When the time comes that we have to do our learning/activity etc online and the chromebooks are not available or booked by someone, we can use our phones when chromebooks aren’t available, because sometimes chromebooks were already booked by other teachers. I think that our phones are useful, even it distract students.
It helps us. I know that other students using their phone during lesson time because they were on social medias/games. If you read this Mr. Sutton, I hope you read this because I have a suggestions. I think that my suggestion is useful, because this is just the right thing that we could/should do so that the students are not in social medias/games etc during our learning time. We can just block all the social medias from the school wifi, and the thing or apps that we use everyday when we are learning aren’t blocked.

Most of the students are agreed to change your new rule which is not happened yet. I hope you allow us to use our phones during our learning time

Yours truly,
Jennifer Martin

Making another salt

Making another salt

Aim:

To make copper sulfate crystals (salt) by neutralising copper oxide (base) with a sulfuric acid (HSO)

Observations: (write an observation for each key stage of the process - full sentences please)

1. when we added the copper oxide to the acid, the liquid turned blue and the copper oxide dissolved.

2. the liquid was clear blue after we filtered it.
3. when the water evaporated (4 days later) there were crystals

Results:
Add 3 photos for the final stages of the experiment to illustrate the process.
